We might have stepped into a New Financial Year, but the challenges of recruitment are now all too familiar as strong hiring activity continues to face the headwinds of a coy talent market.

Where three months ago the battle for talent came down to a competition born out of candidate optimism about the job market - "the world is my oyster" - there's an emerging shift towards caution, underpinned by a drop in consumer confidence.

Data from global recruitment platform JobAdder supports what we're hearing and seeing on the ground - the days of job ads are over, with applications at record lows. Strong talent management and targeted headhunt campaigns are proving the most effective weapon against an increasingly disengaged talent market.
